Subversive Design & The Visual Language of Resistance

What makes a protest image effective?

As part of my postgraduate research at Central Saint Martins in 2022, I explored subversive design as a tool for political communication by looking at interventions by Clet Abraham, Barbara Kruger, Metahaven, Dark Igloo, Ruben Pater and moments where design, media and protest collide.

This video essay asks whether design can do more than communicate a movement. Can it actively influence its success?

Video essay created for Central Saint Martins Visual Communication Design Masters Program - 2022.
